Van Bronckhorst elated as the Dutch enters the World Cup finals

van BronckhorstEx-Arsenal man Giovanni Van Bronckhorst was over the moon as he skippered the Holland team into the finals of the World Cup after defeating Uruguay 3-2. The World Cup final will be the defender’s final professional game of football as he is retiring after the quadrennial tournament.

Van Bronckhorst was instrumental in the Dutch victory, scoring arguably one of the goals of the tournament from 35 yards to give Holland the lead and then heading a Uruguayan shot off the line to save Holland the blushes. Van Bronckhorst said, “”There were no tears, just joy. The last game in my career and it’s a World Cup final, what can you say? It could not be more beautiful. I hope it will be the most beautiful game of my life.” Van Bronckhorst said the game would be the most important for every member of the squad.

Van Bronckhorst is very popular among his team mates and star winger Arjen Robben said that the entire team was very happy for its captain saying that playing a World Cup Final is every player’s dream. Holland assistant coach Frank de Boer was also appreciative of Van Bronckhorst’s contributions saying that a goal of that quality usually comes only once in a lifetime of a football player.
