Mega Millions Jackpot: Stuff to Buy

imagesMega Millions' organizers announced that two winning tickets to Tuesday's $355 million drawing were sold in Idaho and Washington state.

The two winners matched up the numbers 4, 8, 15, 25, 47 and the mega ball number 42 in Tuesday night's drawing.

Although the lucky lottery players will actually split the $355 million jackpot, Surge Desk got to thinking what a person might do with such a sudden influx of expendable cash.

With $355 million you could:

Buy an island
With all the excitement that comes with your newfound fortune, you may want to get away. Luckily, there are plenty of tropical private islands for sale in a lottery winner's price range. For instance, 110-acre private islands in Thailand are available starting at $160 million.

Purchase priceless art
In November 2006, Jackson Pollock's "No. 5, 1948" and Willem de Kooning's "Woman" sold for an estimated $140 million and $137.5 million, respectively. Half of the $355 million would just about cover the cost of either one.

Go house hunting
Unfortunately, not even $355 million would be enough to put you in the world's most expensive address. You'll just have to settle for the $200 million "Penthouse" in London, estimated to be the most expensive apartment in the world.

Invest in an airplane
And not just any airplane will do. Sure, a nice 14-passenger private jet will get you from A to B and run you only about $24 million, but you just won the lottery. Instead, Surge Desk suggests the P-8A Poseidon military aircraft. Used for anti-submarine warfare by the Navy, this torpedo- and missile-equipped plane literally offers the best bang for your buck, at $290 million.

Go to space
If that personal jet doesn't satisfy your new affinity for air travel, Virgin Galactic has you covered. For just $2 million, you and 10 friends can book a trip into space. (Obviously, $2 million is peanuts, but space travel with your friends is awesome.)
