A couple of days back a basketball game between the Grizzlies and the Los Angeles Clippers was interrupted as a result of a pyro-siren that went off. Another basketball faced an intrusion last night, but the consequences and the outcome were more severe and dire than the preceding game. The delay witnessed the horrific scene of a professional athlete’s passing away. The departed soul was no other than Jeron Lewis from the University of Southern Indiana.

According to accounts put forth by more than one onlooker, Jeron Lewis knocked his head hard against the court floor after his feet got meshed, sending the towering six foot eight inch guard flat on the court. For a moment, players and coaches expected Jeron Lewis to rise up again like any other player who takes a plummet. But when that did not happen, coaches and officials scuttled towards the sprawled out Jeron Lewis as he started to paroxysm.

The game had almost ended, with only slightly over four minutes of play left for the evening. When immediate paramedic attention could not revive Jeron Lewis, the tall athlete had to be escorted off the court on a stretcher and was then transported to Owensboro Mercy Health System. After a small passage of time, Jeron Lewis was declared expired.

He was only twenty one years old. He had a bright future ahead of him in the basketball arena. He had a son he would have loved to train. But all those dreams will never materialize for Jeron Lewis any more.
