Management guru C K Prahalad passes away

CHENNAI

: Dr C K Prahalad, an eminent thought leader, renowned management thinker and a distinguished professor, Ross School of Business, University of Michigan, passed away on Saturday morning in San Diego, US after a brief illness.
He was 68. He is survived by his wife, Mrs Gayathri Prahalad, son, Murali Prahalad, daughter, Dheepa Prahalad and grand children.
Coimbatore Krishnarao Prahalad, born in the texcity on August 8, 1941, studied physics in Madras University. He worked as a manager in a branch of the Union Carbide before continuing his education in the US and earning PhD from Harvard.
Prof Prahalad had advised the top management of many of the world’s foremost companies. He served on the board of NCR Corporation, Hindustan Lever. TVS Capital Funds and the World resources institute. He was also the chairman and founder of The Next Practice.
He had championed India’s causes in many world fora. He had a high level of commitment to India and its economic development. His strong belief in good corporate governance and ethical standards was well known. He was honoured with Padma Bhushan, India’s third highest civilian honour for his contribution in the field of literature and education.
He will always be remembered for leading global thinking in bottom of the pyramid markets. He has authored many powerful books combining practical and academic insights. He was the winner of ET award ( Global Indian) for the year 2004.
TVS Capital Funds CMD, Gopal Srinivasan said," Prof Prahalad was on the board from its inception and guided the company in many of its initiatives and thoughts.
