Daily comics character, ‘Cathy’ set to retire in October

For nearly 34 years, the daily comic, “Cathy”, which was aimed at a female audience, has entertained men and women alike. Now, saying that she wishes to spend more time doing other things, Cathy Guiswite is retiring her cartoon character.

What’s next for Cathy Guisewite? A new series, perhaps? Or will she pursue, as she states, more time with her family and other artistic endeavours. Whatever she chooses, we are sure she will succeedcathy-f-1

Strangepup says, Cathy Guisewite will end her long-running, widely published “Cathy” comic strip in October, Universal Uclick has announced. The syndicate said the final daily strip will run Oct. 2, with the final Sunday strip running the next day. Read more

Mike Lynch Cartoons reports, The comic strip “Cathy,” which has chronicled the life, frustrations and swimsuit season meltdowns of its namesake for more than 30 years, is coming to an end. Cathy Guisewite, the strip’s creator, said Wednesday that deciding to end the comic strip was “excruciating.” The comic has won several awards, including a 1992 National Cartoonists Society’s Reuben Award and an Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program in 1987, and at its height appeared in 1,400 papers. The Daily Cartoonist notes, Cathy Guisewite, the creator of Cathy, has announced that she will retire her strip on October 3 (October 2 for dailies) citing the need to spend more time with family and pursue other creative opportunities.Read more
